L. despicere, despectum, to look down upon, despise; de- + spicere, specere, to look. See {Spy}, and cf. {Despicable}, {Despite}.] To look down upon with disfavor or contempt; to contemn; to scorn; to disdain; to have a low opinion or contemptuous dislike of.
