Controversy \Con"tro*ver'sy\, noun; pl. {Controversies}. [L. controversia, fr. controversus turned against, disputed; contro- = contra + versus, p. p. of vertere to turn. See {Verse}.]

1. Contention; dispute; debate; discussion; agitation of contrary opinions.
