Baste \Baste\ (b[=a]st), verb (used with an object) [imp. & p. p. {Basted}; p. pr. & vb. n. {Basting}.] [Cf. Icel. beysta to strike, powder; Sw. basa to beat with a rod: perh. akin to E. beat.]
