Nitric \Ni"tric\, adjective [Cf. F. nitrique. See {Niter}.] (Chem.) Of, pertaining to, or containing, nitrogen; specifically, designating any one of those compounds in which, as contrasted with {nitrous} compounds, the element has a higher valence; as, nitric oxide; nitric acid.
